Veterinary Technology Programs

AVMAlogo

The AVMA accredits veterinary technology programs that have met a long list of criteria including core knowledge, hands-on skills and technical proficiency and hours of clinical of experience.    This oversight helps to ensure that veterinary technology students gain instruction in many areas that are important to providing quality veterinary healthcare.  (To find out about AVMA accreditation standards, go here.)

In Texas, as in the majority of other states, graduation from an AVMA accredited veterinary technology program is required to sit for the credentialing exams to become a Registered Veterinary Technician.

Veterinary technology programs are offered through on-site courses and through distance learning courses.  (Both of which require a minimum of 250 hours of clinical experience to complete.)  The AVMA keeps a list of all programs that have gained accreditation.   Below is a list of those in Texas and those that are offered as distance-education programs.
